I Malatesta

"I Malatesta," the Italian Language and Cultural Center of Rimini, organizes Italian language courses for students over 14 of all nationalities all year round. It's a private school of further education, teaching Italian at all levels, from elementary to advanced, as well as providing a knowledge of Italian culture. Lessons take place every morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Monday to Friday, but our students can take advantage of the free time activities organized by the school staff to increase their Italian knowledge. At "I Malatesta" you will find high-quality teaching, a friendly and studious atmosphere, and personalized pedagogical supervision.

Additional Courses Offered:

ITALIAN CULTURAL STUDIES (4 lessons per week) These afternoon courses can be attended by all students who have a sufficient understanding of the Italian language (only available during June, July and August!).

  1. History of Art: Italian Art from the Romanesque period to the Renaissance. Particular reference is made to the artistic heritage of Rimini and the surrounding area.
  2. Italy Today:  Contemporary Italian History .
  3. History of Opera.
  4. Italian for Tourism.
  5. Italian Language for Libretti. 

Cooking Lessons:  4 lessons per week, only available during June, July and August!. 2 weeks: USD 153.  4 weeks: USD 216.

Accommodations 2008 and 2009:

Host Family: Private Room, breakfast.  USD 202 per week.

Student Flat: Private room, shared bath, no meals. USD 193 per week (no linens provided, additional charge of $48 per month for utilities!).

Hotels: From USD 65 to USD 200 per night.

Activities

Every Monday students are informed of the Center's activities and events taking place in Rimini during the week. Groups are organized for those interested in participating.

Excursions:  The school organizes optional excursions every two weeks, on Saturdays or Sundays, to a number of towns and cities of exceptional historical interest. These include Venice, Florence, Pisa, Ravenna, Verona, San Marino, Urbino and Siena.

Guided Tour of Rimini:  One afternoon a week the History of Art teacher accompanies students on a guided tour of Rimini which includes visits to the Civic Art Gallery, several museums, churches and the city center.

Local Events:  There are many interesting traditional festivals in the Rimini area, and the school organizes visits to these events. An updated list is published weekly.

Learn Italian in Italy

Weekly Dinner:  Every Thursday evening students and teachers meet for dinner in a local restaurant. The evening's entertainment continues with music and dancing, and includes traditional folk dances of  the Rimini area.

Arts and Crafts:   There are many craftsmen in the Rimini area who still practice traditional crafts such as woodcarving and pottery. The school and the city's tourist organizations arrange visits to the workshops of these craftsmen on Saturdays and Sundays.

Films:  Italian films are shown once a week at the school, and are free for all students. Each film is presented by one of the teachers.

The Beach:   Rimini's splendid sandy beach welcomes holiday makers and enthusiasts of sea sports from April  right through to October. An enormous range of sporting activities, entertainment and leisure facilities are available, and the school can provide full information. Rimini enjoys a mild climate in the autumn and winter months, and the beach is the ideal place for long and invigorating strolls.

Music and Dancing:  Music and dancing are deeply ingrained in the hearts of the people of the Rimini area. Innumerable opportunities are thus offered for entertainment and enjoyment, ranging from modern and fashionable discotheques to traditional venues with live dance bands and a friendly local atmosphere.

Goodbye Party:  At the end of each course the school organizes a special party, to which friends and relatives who are with students in Rimini are also invited. It is a perfect occasion to say Arrivederci to fellow students, teachers and to the many friends made on this visit to Rimini.

Cycling:  Rimini's coast and countryside offer many of opportunities for interesting excursions, and students of  the school can obtain special reductions for the hire of bicycles for short or long periods. Since Rimini is particularly flat, bicycles are also an ideal means of environment-friendly local transport.

Riding:  Country rides on horseback is an experience not to be missed. There are several riding centers near Rimini, and these also offer lessons for beginners. The school can provide all relevant information, and can organize interesting excursions for groups of students.
