Italian Language Courses in Rome

Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and features more than 2600 years of European history and culture. Tourists visit the Vatican, the Forum Romanum and the Trevi fountain - but often miss the many other sights, which make the whole city a museum. A city with a population of 3 million people, with elegant shopping areas and the exciting Italian life style. A fascinating city which also offers relaxation with its coffee shops and parks.

The Scuola Leonardo da Vinci is located in a typical aristocratic house in Piazza Del Orologgio near the center of the Old City and only a short distance from  Piazza Navona and the Vatican.

The Leonardo da Vinci Italian Language schools teach according to the Direct Method: from the first day on, at all levels, only Italian will be spoken in class. The spoken language is the most important part of the tuition. Continually promoting the use of verbal communication permit you to learn Italian "naturally", to unite theory with practice with no great problems and to increase your knowledge quickly and with confidence. In advanced courses the written language will also be promoted.

The teaching staff consists of young teams of experienced language teachers, all of whom studied at the University and who have been specially trained in teaching Italian to foreigners.

Most of the teaching materials have been developed by the school and are continually updated using the most recent foreign language research.

But teaching Italian does not consist, for the staff at the Leonardo da Vinci schools, in just teaching grammar and vocabulary. They want to allow their students to gain insight into the Italian way of life and culture. This is why they offer, in addition to the language courses, a whole range of optional activities to their students.

Italian Language Programs 2008 and 2009:

All courses:  minimum age 16.  Each lesson is 45 minutes. Prices include: placement test, assessment and final tests, Italian lessons as specified below, teaching materials (basic course material for Art courses), free internet access, certificate of attendance and student card.

Standard Italian Group Course - (12 students maximum per class). 20 Italian language lessons per week. 4 week minimum.  Prices:  4 weeks: USD 932.  Extra week: USD 209.   Long Term:  12 weeks: USD 2,183.

Intensive Italian Group Course - (12 students maximum per class). 30 Italian lessons per week. 2 week minimum. Prices: 2 weeks: USD 751. 4 wks: USD 1,404.  Extra weeks: USD 327.    Please note: Intensive Italian Course is only available at the Florence and Rome schools!.

Intensive Italian PLUS 5 Group Course - (12 students Max. in group class). 20 Italian language lessons per week of Standard morning group classes PLUS 5 hours a week private instruction in the afternoon. Prices: 2 weeks: USD 1,001. 3 weeks: USD 1,453.  4 weeks: USD 1,905.

Holiday Italian Language Course - Short version of the standard course, 20 Italian language lessons per week. (12 students max per group).   Prices:  2 weeks: USD 514.  3 weeks: USD 723.   4 weeks USD 932.

Private Italian language lessons - All prices per week: 15 Italian language lessons per week: 1 week: USD 932, Extra week: USD 834.

"Italy Today" course - a combination of language training and introduction to art, culture, history and folklore as well as discussions on the current social and political climate in Italy.

Italian Cuisine or Italian Wines.  (Evening sessions once a week:   USD 132 per session for Cuisine course, USD 132 per session for Wine course).

• Leonardo da Vinci registration fee (valid for one year for all Leonardo da Vinci schools).

Holidays 2008: School is closed on 24 March, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, 24 June, 15 August, 8 December. The school will be closed from 13 December 2008 until 4 January 2009.

Holidays 2009: School is closed on 6 January, 13 April, 1 May, 2 June, 29 June, 8 December. The school will be closed from 19 December 2009 until 3 January 2010.  

Accommodation Prices 2008 and 2009:

The following prices are provided for budgeting purposes only. Payment for accommodations is done directly to the host family / landlord upon arrival in local currency.

Host Family - Single room / half board. 2 weeks: From USD 542 to USD 638 depending on location.

Host Family - Single room / breakfast. 2 weeks: From USD 362 to USD 425 depending on location.

Apartment share *. No meals, single room, kitchen privileges. 2 weeks: From USD 362 to USD 425. Extra weeks: USD 195 to USD 229

.* Important Note:  a refundable deposit of 100 Euros is required for all apartment accommodations. This deposit is refunded upon departure.  Any verifiable damage caused by the student will be deducted from the deposit.

Airport Transfers:  Available upon request at additional cost.   Transfer from Rome's  Leonardo da Vinci airport: USD 125 each way.

Activities

Every month the school offers and activity program which includes a number of varied outings and get-togethers including museum and gallery visits, dinners, dancing and excursions . Some activities are offered free of charge while others involve a nominal fee.  A welcome party and a tour of the city is arranged at the beginning of each monthly session.  Optional weekend excursions are also arranged at reasonable cost.
