Learn Italian in ROMERome is the Eternal City, the cradle of European culture. Goethe called Rome "a world in itself." As the political and cultural center of modern-day Italy, Rome has close ties with the rest of the country. Today's Rome is not so much one city as many cities built on top of one another. Writing in the first century, Livy concluded his Early History of Rome with the words, "the layout of Rome is more like a squatters' settlement than a properly planned city." Today, getting lost in the streets of Rome can be one of the most frustrating yet enjoyable experiences of your Roman holiday. Rome's greatest treasures often lie hidden amidst its perplexing tangle of streets. Even the encounter you most look forward to can become a surprise. The Pantheon dawns suddenly over narrow, cobbled streets. Bramante's Tempietto appears in the courtyard of a lonely church. And Rome is a city of grandeur: the long approach to St. Peter's Basilica is one of the world's most majestic.
Istituto ItalianoThe Istituto Italiano, a small Italian language school offering personalized attention, was founded in 1983 to provide instruction in the Italian language to foreign students. It is located on the first floor of a stately building right in the center of town (a 7 minute walk to the Coliseum, and 5 minute walk to Termini Station), making it possible for students to do almost anything they wish without using public transportation. The premises consist of a reception area, seven classrooms, a common area and a garden where students can gather and socialize during breaks. Its academic and administrative staff is friendly and very helpful. The Istituto Italiano is also recognized as a preparation center for the entrance exams for the University of Siena as well as the Institutes of Art and Restoration in Rome and Florence.
